Description

SiSMS is a small program for reading SMS files generated by your Siemens mobile phone. With it you can browse and read the corresponding SMI and SMO files. The program also features searching in SMS files for text and for number, saving of the message as text file, SMS file details view, integrated phonebook for ease of use, multiple languages interface, message filtering and much more.

Features

Some of the main advantages of SiSMS are:

Supported mobiles

Presently you can view messages by all Siemens models, which can export SMSs as SMI/SMO files. Namely, everything from X55 to date (see the note below). Not supported model is Siemens SX1, which uses another SMS archiving format.

NOTE: There was an error when you try to open messages by SL42/SL45 on versions prior to 0.0.5.0. Since SiSMS 0.1 Pre-alpha this error has been fixed.

Notes

Please, note that SiSMS current version is a Pre-alpha version and might have some major misses in functionality. For now Reverse order sorting and Phonebook are not implemented yet, though they have corresponding user interface entries. Also, EMS and Siemens x35 series images support is somewhat limited to text representation of predefined animations and sounds (I cannot decide which text edit control to use for image display). As for sounds, it is not very likely that the program will ever support custom EMS melodies. Printing is not available so far.

Download

You can download and use SiSMS for free but please read the License agreement first! Note that SiSMS is solely for personal use and is provided as is without any explicit and/or implied warranties and should be installed and used on your own risk.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Why does the time shown in the status bar differ from the time I remember I sent the SMS?

Siemens phones prior to x65 series do not store the date/time the message was sent (only for SMO files). So, the program uses the file creation time, which is the time when you moved the message to the Archive folder and it is indicated by a '(file creation time)' message in the status bar.

Why are some menu items in bold?

There are some submenus, which if double clicked will automatically execute the submenu item in bold. That is if you double click Language submenu, the language will be set to English. The same is with Filter and Sort by in the Message menu.

Troubleshooting

No files are shown in the SMS archive on my Siemens mobile phone, though it's full

Unfortunately, you cannot browse the SMS archive on your phone directly. This is due to limitations in Siemens DES (Data Exchange Software) and MPM (Mobile Phone Manager) which do not allow to treat folders located in the memory of your phone as common Windows folders, even though you can see Mobile/Siemens Device under My Computer and traverse its contents (only for Mobile/DES). That's why you should download the SMI/SMO files on your computer first and then open them in SiSMS. Yet, why use SiSMS to read messages located on the phone - the phone itself can already do that ;-)

I sometimes get "Access violation" error message

One reason is that you are trying to open the Mobile folder under My Computer via SiSMS interface. See previous question for details.
Another reason is errors due to the used components (namely, there's a flaw in the ShellCtrls library). It is often caused by excessive changes of the system folder in the tree list view. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything to prevent that access violation error from happening...

Font is not immediately changed or is not reset after selecting the "Reset font..." option

You are trying to change between TrueType (or OpenType) to OEM font  with different charsets. There's a built-in font mapping in the rich edit control, so that you need to open a message which actually uses the OEM character set for the new font to take effect. For example, after switching from Cyrillic to Western charset selecting a TrueType (or OpenType font) and then resetting it to Cyrillic OEM font (such as MS Sans Serif), you'll need to open a SMS with cyrillic characters or restart the program. This bug affects mainly Windows 2000/XP systems.
